Ode Tae a Tunnock’s Tea Cake

Ode Tae a Tunnock’s Tea Cake

A Long-Lost Ode (Sort Of) to Scotland’s Sweetest Icon

In a dusty attic somewhere in deepest Ayrshire (or possibly just the back of a biscuit tin), I recently stumbled upon what may well be a long-lost work from the lesser-known “snack period” of Robert Burns’ career. Or maybe not. Either way, we felt it only right to share this heartfelt tribute to one of Scotland’s most beloved national treasures: the mighty Tunnock’s Tea Cake.

Pop the kettle on, grab a wee bite, and enjoy this cheeky wee homage to a true legend of the Scottish tea break.

Ode Tae a Tunnock’s Tea Cake

(With apologies to Rabbie Burns – and Mr. Tunnock)

Oh bonnie dome o’ chocolate shell,
Wi’ marshmallow cloud I ken sae well,
Ye sit there coy in shiny wrap,
A crimson, silvery, tasty trap.

Your shortbread base sae soft and sweet,
A bite o’ bliss, a love complete.
Nae fancy French patisserie,
But pure, unfiltered joy tae me.

When skies are grey, devoid of light,
Ye cheer me up wi’ every bite.
Ye dinnae judge, ye dinnae boast,
But all agree, ye’re Scotland’s toast.

From childhood days tae teabreak times,
You're in our hearts and in our rhymes.
So here’s tae you, dear Tunnock’s treat,
Since ’56 ye've no been beat!

Whether penned by Rabbie himself or simply inspired by a deep and lifelong love of chocolate and nostalgia (we’ll let you decide), I hope this wee ode brought a smile to your face. If it’s stirred a craving too, you’ll find plenty of Tunnock’s-inspired treasures in my Tunnock's Collection, the perfect way to celebrate Burns Night!

If Tunnocks Tea Cakes were around in Rabbie Burns time he would have surely dedicated a poem to them. This is brilliant! We all need something lighthearted to make us smile and this certainly does.
Let’s face it we all love a tunnocks tea cake, it’s the one thing that makes us smile!

I’m sure the Bard would have been delighted, especially if the poem was accompanied by a Tunnocks Teacake!
