The Murray Brothers - Scottish National Treasures!

Andy and Jamie Murray are two Scottish brothers who have one thing in common - they are amazing at tennis. They became the first ever set of brothers to simultaneously occupy the world number one spot in 2016, quite an achievement for the Murray family (and for Scotland)!

To celebrate their success and the great name they’ve given us, I’ve created new Andy and Jamie Murray fine china mugs, in collaboration with fantastic Scottish illustrator Clare Forrest. You can check out her other designs here: https://clareforrestillustration.com/

These famous sporting brothers say that they are each other’s biggest fan, and they have had tonnes of support from one another and their almost equally famous mother, Judy. Their achievements are both high in number and extremely impressive. Jamie is a three-time Grand Slam doubles winner and a Davis Cup champion, and he is currently the world No. 5 doubles player! Andy, the younger of the two, is a three-time Grand Slam tournament winner, two-time Olympic champion, Davis Cup champion and the winner of the 2016 ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Tour Finals. Phew!

Post a golden letter...

They grew up in Dunblane, where there is now a famous gold post-box which was painted to mark Andy’s Olympic gold medal success. Andy was knighted in 2016 with the Queen's New Year Honours list, and he now owns the Cromlix Hotel in Perthshire. Jamie Murray was also awarded an OBE for services to his sport and charity. It’s fair to say that the pair have had a busy few years!

Andy has had his share of run-ins with the press and been criticised for being 'a dour Scot'. Not so! He's won BBC Sports Personality of the Year a record 3 times and I think I can speak for most of us Scots when I say that we think he's brilliant and very charismatic in his own way. After all, he's a sportsman, not a chat show host.

Here are a couple of snaps of the mug in the lovely gift shop 'Charisma’ from Andy and Jamie's hometown, Dunblane. I’ve also got a range of fine china mugs featuring different designs from my varying ranges. You’ll find animals, Scottish icons and quirky phrases for tea lovers, too!

One final Andy Murray fact for you - he very nearly became a football player and not a tennis superstar, after being asked to train with Rangers Football Club School of Excellence aged 15. Thats one talented boy!

Till next time,

Gillian
