Hello everyone, and welcome to our brand new website, new blog, and my first ever blog post. We have spent a lot of time trying to create a site that is interactive and easy to use, and being quite a friendly bunch really, we would love you to get involved - you can comment on blog posts, get in touch using the 'contact' form, join us on Facebook and Twitter (via the 'Community' section of the site) and send us your pics to share in our 'scrapbook'. Make sure you check out our newly launched design collections, Victorian Vintage (based on beautiful old food labels form the 1900's) and Tunnocks Caramel Wafer (no explanation required). We also have fun but practical new lines of fine bone china mugs and melamine coasters in your favourite GK designs. Feel free to share your thoughts on the new stuff - we'd love to hear from you.
I had another first recently when I was asked to take part in the BBC Radio Scotland's Culture Cafe programme which was being recorded at the BBC Good Food Show at the SECC. The discussion theme was Food & Art - a topic I could witter on about until the cows come home. I have to admit to being a bit nervous beforehand, but it actually felt very relaxed once we got going and I'm fairly confident that in the main I sounded like a sane and sensible human being. Albeit one with a Teacake obsession - but that doesn't make me a bad person. Does it?
If you follow us on Facebook (and if not, why not?), you'll be aware that we recently did a collaboration with 'the Worlds Most Awarded Single Malty Whisky', Glenfiddich. We were delighted to be asked to produce a range of gifts to be sold in their gorgeous distillery visitor centre and on their newly re-designed webshop. The collection includes organic aprons, tea towels & tote bags, fine bone china mugs and melamine coasters in a couple of designs - one based on a selection of vintage Glenfiddich bottles, and the other inspired by the bottle labels themselves. I think they turned out rather well, and the guys at Glenfiddich are delighted (phew) so we are already looking at updating the range for next year. I'm very proud to have been asked to work with a brand like Glenfiddich which has such an immense cultural significance in Scotland and around the world. At the beginning of the project I travelled up north to see the distillery and take the tour, and can honestly say that its a world class visitor attraction - they have a heritage and story which is just awe-inspiring, and the pride they take in producing their whisky is testament to the excellence that our wee nation is capable of. Its a very beautiful place too - well worth a trip. You can find out more about Glenfiddich here, and see/buy the collection online here.
